It depends. Students typically begin working with a college counselor in their junior year of high school. However, if a student has a very hectic schedule, it may be beneficial to get an earlier start.
Most colleges use a “holistic” review process. This means a variety of factors are considered in the application review. Each of these factors plays a distinct role in assisting college admissions offices to gain a comprehensive understanding of an applicant’s strengths, talents, experiences, and how they will ultimately contribute to their college community.
Working with a college counselor can provide you with a personal and individualized experience. By getting to know you, your college counselor can determine your best attributes and make certain they are being clearly communicated throughout the college application process.
